Create a Fabulous Food Basket

When someone is feeling sad, sick, depressed, or if you just want to let someone know that you are thinking of them you may want to consider putting together a food basket. A food basket can say so many different things but the main point is that you are caring. When preparing a food basket there are some things that you need to keep in mind, such as if the person receiving the basket is diabetic, likes to cook, on a diet, or other illnesses that may prevent them from eating the foods that you would normally put in a food basket. You can still do a food basket regardless of their likes or dislikes, diet, or illness but it helps to know this information first.

There are different types of food baskets that you can create. Each one should reflect what the person is going through at the time. If your food basket is for someone who is just moving into their new home, moving out, getting married, having a baby, or just getting out of the hospital then you can decorate the basket accordingly. Here are some great ideas for food gift baskets.

- Spaghetti sauce, pasta, wooden spoon, recipe card that contains your favorite spaghetti recipe, a cookbook, and a dish towel to clean up messes. This basket would be good for the expectant mother or house warming.

- If someone is sick you can make a basket that will help them to bounce back more quickly. Bland foods can help ease the stomach back to eating solid foods again. When deciding which food basket to prepare remembers to add food, something to prepare it with, and something to drink. You can also send something extra like reading material or a card.

- For someone who may have reason to celebrate, consider a food basket that contains a cheese ball, crackers, Champagne - alcohol or non alcohol, and two wine glasses. You may also want to add some confetti in a baggie.

- For a child/teen that has done really good in school, consider a food basket that contains a simple cookie recipe, a bowl, spatula, potholder, and a card with a ribbon to congratulate them on their achievement.

- Everyone loves home-baked goodies. Fill a basket with home baked cupcakes of different flavors and surprise someone with afternoon tea.

You don't necessarily need a basket to put your supplies in. You can be creative and brainstorm through the store. For example, you may want to get someone who just had a baby a small bottle bag to put all your food basket supplies in. Add ribbons and bows to decorate the outside. If someone is sick you may want to purchase a lap tray and place everything on the tray and then add colored cling wrap overtop to hold everything in. Complete the look with ribbons and bows. For someone just moving in to their home, purchase a nice mixing bowl to add all your food basket supplies in. They can keep the mixing bowl to use in their new home.

It's important to make someone happy and to let them know that you care about them. Sometimes words can't describe it but gestures can. Making your own food basket can let someone know that you are there for them and you care.
